うちのじーさまの話。
通信用員として青森で勤務中に青森大空襲に遭遇。
これほどの大空襲の経験はなく、戦死も覚悟したところで立ち上がったのは、
東京や大阪などから転属してきた他の将兵。
彼らは普段から、大空襲を戦い抜いたと豪語してたそうで。
「俺たちはもっとデカイ空襲を生き延びた。まかせろ！」と言うので
さぁ、敵機に一矢報いんと思いきや
その東京の将兵ども一目散に逃げる逃げる。
なぜ逃げるのかと聞いたら
「高いところおるんは弾もあたらん、真下に居たら死ぬだけだから、とりあえず逃げてから考える」
「さぁ壕におっては蒸されて人間点心なるぞ！はよ出んか」
「一度落ちた所にゃ、まず二度落ちん。着弾箇所めがけて走れ！」
言われた通り逃げたら隊のほとんどが生き延びたが、釈然とせず、問い詰めたところ。
「生き延びて戦える時に戦う。生存もまた戦い。退き際見誤るは将の恥」
と笑っていたそうな。
祖父は今日までその教えを守り、引き際を極めたギャンブラーになりました。
今でもたまに寿司食わしてくれます。
